1926

The Masonic Lodge, home to the Governors Club, is constructed at the corner of Adams Street and College Avenue.

May 30, 1980

Bill Horne, Manager of the Steak and Ale Restaurant pitches his idea of a first class private club, the Governors Club, to local business leaders. In the following 10 months, the planning committee and community leaders unanimously vote to organize and incorporate the Governors Club.

September 9, 1981

Governors Club takes possession of the Odd Fellows Hall via a 20-year lease with two 10-year extensions with the Leon Lodge No. 5, International Order of Odd Fellows.

November 5, 1982

Governors Club opens amid much fanfare with a grand reception for members.

October 1, 1992

Governors Club Grille, with seating for 100 opens on the ground floor of the Clubhouse.

November 1996

Governors Club Balcony construction is completed and is open for alfresco dining.

2006

Governors Club Lounge construction is completed, providing a popular and attractive venue for after hours meetings and get togethers.

2017

The Patio is installed on the corner of College Avenue and Adams Street, underneath the stately Magnolia Tree. The Patio offers our Members a fantastic space to dine and enjoy cocktails.  In November of this year, the Governors Club celebrates 35 beautiful years as the premier private club in Tallahassee.

2019

The Club underwent phase one of a 2.5 million dollar renovation. Phase one included the second and third floors of the Clubhouse. A grand celebration was held on November 20, 2019. Phase two, which included the Lobby and Grille renovations were completed in late spring and summer of 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2024

The Board of Governors completed a full renovation of the Club Lounge which included improved traffic flow, new furnishings, private smoking room, and a state-of-the art wine dispenser.
